A Large 19th Century Antique Inlaid Tunbridge Ware Jewelry Case / Chest, Box.

This remarkable Wood jewelry Case is constructed of various kinds 

of thick cut wood blocks, not thin inlay, (See photos of the underside.).

The base of the box features four horizontal slits for a leather strap and handle 

that can be applied to the case, so it can be carried.

The underside of the box has remnants of old glue blocks that supported bracket feet.

The chest includes two working keys, the locks work.

In design, the term "Tunbridge" refers to a type of decorative woodwork

that uses & inserts small pieces of different types and

colors of wood to create a parquetry or geometric pattern or mosaic.
