19th C Italian Marquetry Table Cabinet, Bovine Bone Inlay Roman Figures We are offering a Sorrento ware inlaid table top box with drawers, This wonderfully intricate mid 19th century table cabinet is made of a beautiful light wood and inlaid with bovine bone. The cabinet comes with its original working key to securely close and open its door. On the front door there are two decorative scrimshaw panels of two Roman male figures. On the interior door, there is a Roman Goddess done in scrimshaw as well. The drawers were later fitted with padded fabric, c.1901. This cabinet comes with a paper dated 1901 provenance in French, stating Mrs. Loture left this Italian cabinet to a Mrs. Lemoine. Translation of the provenance slip: (french to english) Cabinet Italian incrustations 9’ bone souvenir of Mrs. Loture bequeathed at Mrs. Lemoine in 1901 Approx. Dimensions: Height: 14 1/2" Width: 17" Depth: 8 3/4" Condition: This 19thc. table cabinet is in solid condition and comes with its original key. The cabinet opens and closes securely. In the bottom of the front door, there’s a gap caused by age shrinkage. All drawers open and close smoothly and are in sound condition. Only one small tear to the interior red fabric. The piece has small pieces of missing bone inlay throughout. The top of the box's wood has a piece of inlay peeling due to shrinkage.
