A wonderful American Coin Silver set of 6 teaspoons with the original box.
Each spoon is monogrammed on the handle "MEP", and are of a lovely
fiddle shape.
The back of each spoon is marked "Pure Coin" "N. Roth-Utica" and "NY".
Nelson Roth was a jeweler and silversmith in Utica, New York from 1837-1853
These 6 spoons are set in the original brown leather box, with two swinging clasps to
close the box. The inside is lined with blue silk.The underside of the lid reads
Wendell & Hyman Chicago Illinois.
Charles Wendell and Sigmund Hyman were jewelers and retailers in Chicago, IL. 1866-1875
Along with this set are two pieces of provenance from the original owner.
The first reads:
To Ann
A Merry Xmas,
from Pilla (?) Reynolds -
Dec - 25 - 1936
The second paper reads:
"Dear Ann,
These were mother's wedding teaspoons - in original case - April 11th 1871
She wanted you to have them - so with her love they arrive as a Xmas greeting -
in this her first Xmas in a land of peace, health & understanding - Lovingly,
Dolly Reynolds Giddings"
