A 19th c., 1850's-60's, Oil on canvas of an early Riverboat
on what looks like the Hudson River, New York.
Known as the Hudson River Day Line and the Golden Age of Steamboat Travel.
The company stressed "passengers only" and so it became known as an elegant
and leisurely scenic way to travel.
The side paddle housing has the painted name "Chas. Carroll" which is
probably the passenger ship's name.
We have not found a signature on this very well painted piece.
The colors are correct and bright creating a wonderful scene with the passengers
strolling on the decks and enjoying their day.
This 19th c. painting has been professionally cleaned and relined in the past.
