Franks studied in Paris at Académie Julian and Grande Chaumiére. 
He painted portraits and scenery for Vancouver theaters before settling in Los Angeles about 1936. 
There he further studied with Fechin, Chamberlin, Will Foster, at Chouinard's and the Art Center.
 Franks designed sets and titles the movie industry.  
Franks died in Laguna Beach, CA on Nov. 11, 1970
Every summer, Laguna Beach, CA holds what is known as "Festival of Arts." This exhibit, tradition has been held every year for decades.
The original purchaser of this work by Leon Franks lived in Laguna Beach, California
We were lucky enough to know his son through our gallery and were finally able to purchase a few of his fathers paintings.
We were pleasantly surprised to discover such talented work. Mr. Franks talent was a master, a natural, creating with ease such beautiful works of art.
 We are delighted to be able to offer you some of the nicest works from his collection. The son said, "his father's collections came together in the 1940s and the 1950s." 
This painting dates from the late1940s to the mid 1950s and is painted on Masonite
Franks taught art at Los Angeles City Parks & Recreation (1949)
Los Angeles Businessmens Art Club (1955-56), 
Laguna Beach Art & Design School (1962-65).
He was the author of several "How to Paint" books.

Condition: The canvas and paints are in excellent clean condition. 
The western style frame is also in very good shape. 
The cloth matt is toned from age, yet there is no staining.
