We are offering an Early 19th Century Carved Woodblock by early British caricaturist,
Percy Cruikshank. This is the original block of wood which was used to make the prints
when set in a press. This piece was likely for a political satire, as Cruikshank was famous for.
It is signed "P. Cruik. del" on the bottom of the design.

This print would have depicted two figures, one kicking the other in the back. The man kicking
is wearing some sort of tall hat, likely indicating his higher status than his victim. This would have
been accompanied by satirical text, and might have been used for a newspaper or series of prints.

Percy Cruikshank was the son of Caricaturist Isaac Robert Cruikshank,
the brother of George Cruikshank. He lived from 1817-1880.

The carved surface of the wood is very dark, the sides and back being lighter.
We've included an edited photo to show what the resulting print would have looked.

This is an incredibly rare object, and perfect for any collection of British comic arts.
