We are offering a very rare, possibly one of a kind,
"Trench Art" Artillery Shell Art Pedestal.

Trench art can reveal a lot about the soldiers, prisoners, and civilians who made it,
including their feelings about the war, their surroundings, and the materials they had available.
For example, a shell might have the country of origin
and manufacture date stamped on the bottom

This pedestal is constructed of a 4 inch 50 Caliber artillery shell
manufactured by A&J MA mfg. Co. in 1918 for the U.S. Navy,

On the bottom of the wood base is the name of the maker or owner
"Father John Richard Gomes"

A 4" 50 Caliber Gun fired America’s first shot of World War II,
sinking a Japanese midget submarine, at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
