Early 19thc. Silk Needlework Art on Painted Paper, Reverse Painted Glass Matte
We are offering...
A wonderful late 1700s - Early 1800s French Needlework Sampler, Eglomise Glass Mat with Original Frame. The needlepoint, (embroidery) is extraordinarily fine work in silk on a painted paper background. The young lady looks to be admiring her elegantly flowing gowns.
These early and striking samplers represent the silk/wool work that mostly comprised the education of most girls (of leisure) in its time. Art, sewing, elegant scripting, perhaps...not so many subjects open to these young ladies from wealthy households.
Shipping may seem expensive, but it will go FedEx and be professionally packaged. The work retains it's original reverse painted glass which is quite delicate.

Condition:
This lovely embroidery on silk over painted paper under reverse painted glass needs some tender loving care. This has survived almost two hundred years and (our opinion) is well worth the time to repair or simply hang. One does not notice the abrasions until closer inspection. The frame has later paint & a modern backing.
