Rare piece. The lovely twisted sterling silver 9" lettuce fork by the maker Towle. We believe this fork was created somewhere between 1890-1900 based on its lion hallmark.
Its intricately twisted handle tapers smaller near the head of the lettuce fork.
Towle Silversmiths was originally founded in 1857 as Towle & Jones by Anthony
Francis Towle and William P. Jones. Over the years, Towle has created numerous
sterling silver flatware patterns in the United States. In 1890, the company adopted
the trademark of a large script "T" enclosed by a lion.
